Raymond Snivley Deals with the Almighty

No one ever got the better of Raymond Snivley. Many had tried, and many had failed. Raymond was fair, but always firm, and he refused to be taken in by foolery or flattery. Anyone who had any kind of business with him soon learned that he was a tough customer.

Raymond set out to succeed in all his endeavors, and regularly did so, establishing himself as a man of means. His fearsome reputation for hardheaded dealings preceded him wherever he went. Everyone knew that Raymond Snivley was no pushover.

When God spoke to Raymond one day, grandly informing him that he was needed for the performance of a special task, it was with the presumption that Raymond would humbly comply. Instead, Raymond responded by asking, "What's in it for me, pal?"

God was slightly taken aback by Raymond's show of insolence. Being God, He was used to having His own way in all things. After God had considered the matter, He dismissed Raymond and went looking for someone who would be a bit more obliging.

Raymond, who always took a straightforward approach to life, was not perturbed by this outcome. He was quite willing to deal with anyone, at any time, provided the terms on offer were reasonable, but he would not be a pushover, not even for the Almighty.
