A Shameless Instance of Capitalist Fraud: America Says "The Pandemic Is Over" in 2021

In the United States of America, in June, 2021, the capitalist authorities, both federal and state, have decided, without having any reasonable justification, to "end" the pandemic that was declared by the World Health Organization in March, 2020. "The pandemic is over," they say. All restrictions and restraints will be recklessly lifted, which, according to the opinion of many reputable scientists (in other words, those not on the payroll of a pharmaceutical corporation), will inevitably permit new, and extremely dangerous, variants of Covid-19 to spread without hindrance, thereby making a bad situation even worse. Such willful foolishness is of truly breathtaking proportions, and the probable results could, potentially, be exceedingly dreadful.

The pandemic was created by capitalism, being a direct product of capitalist priorities. Those same priorities have further expanded and greatly prolonged its threat. Millions have perished around the world, because capitalist leaders were careless and not willing to take necessary measures to properly contain the virus. Instead, they offered nothing more than delays, excuses, and falsehoods, seeking to distract the unthinking public, while refusing to acknowledge the self-evident need for radical action. At the beginning of 2021, they suddenly announced that vaccines would soon be available to everyone, supposedly promising a safe, easy conclusion to an apparently short-run predicament, and, more pertinently, allowing capitalism to resume its full range of operation.

Unfortunately, the "end of the pandemic," as currently being presented at the start of summer in 2021, is a shameless instance of capitalist fraud. The pandemic is not actually over. The vaccines do not have magic properties, beyond their ability to enrich those who market them, and will not, by themselves, make the virus disappear forever. As things stand, the vaccines are, at best, a transitory fix for a problem that requires a permanent solution. As is usually the case, the motives of greed are all that matter to those who hold power. The health and safety of the general community is never a matter of consideration for such people, and will never be a matter of consideration, unless all citizens forsake their delusions and demand an urgent change.
