The Pandemic Continues, September 2021: Another Step Closer to Human Extinction

At the start of the summer in 2021, we were told, by the practiced deceivers who lead us, that the pandemic of Covid-19 which began in 2020 was, to use their slipshod term, "over." In the United States, President Joe Biden grandly (and dishonestly) declared that America would celebrate a "summer of joy." Instead, the Delta variant (helped along by the irrational removal of restraints on communal activities) harshly manifested itself throughout the summer, causing a huge surge in cases of Covid-19 around the world, particularly among children and teenagers. The vaccines that supposedly promised a swift means of ending the pandemic began to fail, allowing a further spread of the virus and a widespread increase in the number of serious infections. At the moment, in September, 2021, things are not looking good for the future of humanity.

How did we get to the brink of hopelessness and destruction? How did we miss every opportunity to gain control over the situation, when that was still achievable? How did we ensure the doom toward which we now appear to be heading? To answer those questions, one must first acknowledge what no reasonable person can seek to deny: the pandemic is the result of, and is being unnecessarily prolonged by, a nasty cluster of capitalist prerogatives. Those above us who hold wealth and power never had any intention of taking strong measures to stem the tide of Covid-19 that has swept over the globe. They took an immoral approach to the virus, an approach based on the deliberate use of falsehood, smoothly peddling casual lies and scorning any actions, however much needed, that might threaten the dirty, unholy business of making money.

When the arrival of vaccines was announced in January, 2021, people were encouraged to believe that salvation was at hand, but as we have seen this year, it was not. The vaccines proved to be merely a passing trick, a temporary distraction, a convenient way for our duplicitous masters to promote a general condition of baleful confusion, while also generating riches for a handful of executives. By choosing to mindlessly put their trust in the CEOs of pharmaceutical corporations (the same corrupt CEOs whose greedy practices have enslaved untold millions of "consumers" with a sinister range of harmful drugs), hapless citizens have made an unforgivable error that will result in their collective undoing. They let themselves be talked into betting all they had on the wrong horse, and because of that grievous mistake, they stand to lose everything.

A year and a half into the pandemic, it should be evident to anyone who is not trapped within a thick cloud of delusion that Covid-19 is here to stay. It should also be evident that the capitalists who were elected to preserve the common well-being of the citizenry have shamelessly abandoned us, preferring to elevate their own interests above all other considerations. They have done next to nothing (aside from actively pushing vaccines of doubtful effectiveness) to counter the relentless growth of the virus. Given that we are in a pandemic, with daily suffering everywhere (and much more to come), it would seem that a wholesale examination of capitalism should be in the making, but too many people are occupied in complaining about having to cover their nose and mouth, and do not see what is happening right in front of their eyes.

Members of the public have, from the onset of the pandemic, been their own worst enemies. They have casually disdained any attempt at mature judgment. They have permitted their health and safety to be used as cheap offerings to the heartless gods of capitalism. They have resisted the clear necessity of exercising caution, lazily rejecting the urgent awareness that is required and heedlessly refusing to alter their usual modes of behavior. They have lamely accepted that schools, where infection is certain to spread at even greater speed, should be kept open during a pandemic, thereby sending their helpless children into extreme danger, carelessly kicking them into a potentially fatal pit of Covid-19. They have, in nearly every instance, injured themselves to the same degree that their foul leaders have injured them.

How will this madness end? Quite probably, it will turn out badly for us, perhaps ending in the total extinction of the human species. Most people, on reading those gloomy words, will instantly respond, "No, no, that could never happen," but, contrary to such wishful thinking, the dreadful truth inevitably affirms itself in the face of weak, passive avoidance: human extinction can happen, and, unless we quickly resolve to change the reckless course on which we are currently set, most likely will happen. The overt folly of our leaders, and the unremitting foolishness of the masses, has crippled us and condemned us. The days, weeks, months, and years of the pandemic are grimly extending onward, taking us beyond any chance of escape or recovery. The virus is ceaselessly mutating toward its final victory, and our time is running out.
