Is It Now Too Late for America to Save Itself from Covid-19?

As the days of August grow short in 2022, a dark question hangs over the pandemic that has unceasingly expanded since it was first declared by the World Health Organization in March, 2020. After two and a half years of corrupt authorities negligently allowing the dangerous virus to spread in a completely uncontrolled manner, is it now too late for humanity to save itself from Covid-19? As the current summer of denial and dishonesty comes to an uneasy end in Joe Biden's America, we are blindly stumbling toward autumn and winter, cursed with the dreadful certainty that an unstable future, filled with week after week of constant trouble and needless suffering, awaits us.

We are in this situation of horror because, from the beginning of the pandemic, the useless leaders of America have boldly refused to do what is urgently required. In addition to recklessly permitting the virus to flourish without check, enabling it to reach full strength, they have also been so utterly depraved as to actually encourage its further spread, supposedly as a doubtful means of achieving "herd immunity." Such undisguised evil has quickly become the standard for administering public health, with the CDC (which laughingly, and incorrectly, continues to present itself as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and other institutions aiding the virus at every step.

Most members of the American citizenry, after being subjected to a daily outpouring of expedient falsehood from their leaders, have collectively deceived themselves into a mistaken belief that the pandemic is "over," "nearly over," or "no longer a problem," and are unwilling to follow any recommendations of caution. (Assuming, of course, that any recommendations of caution were to be offered.) Most Americans are stubbornly embracing their own doom, having alarmingly decided that, if avoiding infection can only be accomplished by not engaging in the full range of shallow activities to which they are foolishly accustomed, they would prefer to take their chances with the virus.

At this stage of the pandemic, anyone with a rational mind should be given to thoughts of fear and hopelessness. When viewed in a straightforward context of mature reason, the months and years ahead do not appear to offer an agreeable prospect. It is hideously inevitable that, under prevailing conditions, new variants of Covid-19, likely being more contagious than the ones that preceded them, will relentlessly manifest themselves, with each new variant putting us at a greater disadvantage. The result will be more of what America has already experienced: mass illness on an enormous scale, with many thousands, finally adding up to millions, of lives being cut needlessly short.

If American leaders do not repent of their wrongdoing soon, and bring about a swift change in their heedless policies regarding Covid-19, we must face the harsh truth and prepare ourselves for a distinctly unhappy outcome. What makes it worse is knowing that it could have been much different. If N95 masks had been regularly worn, if people had kept a distance from one another, if indoor spaces (schools, restaurants, airports, etc.) had been closed, if weak vaccines had not been used as a distraction, and if so many careless lies had not been repeatedly uttered, we might not be stuck in this state of affairs. However, we are where we are, and where we are is extremely grim.
