Tony Blair: An Unrepentant Liar

Tony Blair, who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007, was called to appear before the Iraq Inquiry in London on January 29, 2010. During his six hours of responding to questions, he repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in connection with his vehement support for the American war in Iraq, offering a feeble litany of shallow, self-serving excuses. Once again, Mr. Blair proved himself to be an unrepentant liar. He also proved himself to be a man without integrity, a man without principle, and a man without remorse.

It seems that Tony Blair has actually come to believe his own lies. He lied, crudely and brazenly, at the beginning of the war in Iraq, and he has continued to lie ever since. In 2003, instead of doing what was in the best interests of the United Kingdom, or doing what was in the best interests of Iraq, he foolishly did what George W. Bush, President of the United States, wanted him to do. Mr. Blair knowingly allowed his country to be drawn into the hell of an unnecessary war that resulted in tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians being killed. For that reason alone, he deserves to be harshly condemned.

As a citizen of the United Kingdom, I find it necessary to express both my shame and my anger in regard to the actions of Tony Blair. He should, henceforth, be regarded as an evil figure of utter infamy. He may choose to self-righteously deny being a willing accomplice to mass murder in Iraq, and he may refuse to express even a hint of regret at the heavy suffering of the Iraqi people, but no matter how many lies he tells to the public and to himself, he can never remove the deep stains of bloodshed from his own reputation.
